What made you realize that music was your path?
D.S:When I was a kid, I used to have a dusty guitar in the back of my closet, and I looked at it everyday, determined I would play it one day. That’s when I realized that music was my passion. (I still have that guitar)
How would you describe the music that you typically create?,
DS: Head-bumpin’. It’s definitely something you can blare on some hot beach days.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
D.S: Timeflies and Jake Miller. Awesome artists with some better talent.
What makes your music unique?
D.S: It’s my own. It’s my life. I write about real stuff. I take what’s going on in my life, and put it into a song. So it’s relative to just about everyone.
Has there been one particular moment in your musical career that you’re most proud of?
D.S: I signed a pizza box for someone before, that was pretty awesome.
What’s next for you?
D:S This summer, expect BIG things. I’ve been working on a lot of music. Best yet.
What’s your motto or the advice you live by?
D:S Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you declares The Lord, plans for you to prosper…”
For our readers who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words:
If I was to turn on your iPod right now, what five artists/songs would I see on your recently played list?
A Great Big World
Swedish House Mafia
If you could go open up for any artist on tour right now who would it be?
D.S: Definitely either Jake Miller or Timeflies. I can’t decide between those two.
Do You write all of your own music; where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the process?
D:S I do write all of my music, although I do covers sometimes. I love taking everything that I’m going through, and putting into a song. There’s something magical about making music to your problem, or even things that aren’t problems. Just writing music, it’s a great escape.
What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?
D:S When I was in about 7th grade I kicked a hole in my neighborhood community’s poorhouse.
Between Timeflies, Counting Stars, A Great Big World, & Die Young Which was Your favorite to record and why?
D.S I would have to say “Counting Stars,” just for the simple fact that I wrote the entire arrangement, and I actually liked it. It was a big progression step for me in my music. I’ve only gotten better since that.
how long did it take to shoot the videos?
D.S: I recorded over a course of about 3-4 days for a video. Pretty quick considering how long they usually take. Except I edit all of my own work, except I do have a cinematographer, and awesome friend, Dylon Duhon.
How long have you been skateboarding? What Level would you consider yourself to be?
D.S: Well, I’ve been long boarding my entire life. I was always into the bombing hills, or sliding for miles kind of thing, but I would consider myself an alright skater. I can definitely get by.
What Cover Will you ben Doing Next?
D.S:That’s a surprise, stay tuned.
Any Last Words?
D.S: I definitely want to let everyone know that dreams do come true. No matter how cliché that may sound, it happens every single day. It takes hard work, dedication, ambition, persistance, integrity, and the passion for the subject of what you’re doing. I want to say to never give up on what you want to do. Chase it like you’ve already almost caught up to it, because you have. You’ll only go as far in life as you allow yourself to, and that my friends, is amazing.
