Liam Michaels DJWhat’s your stage name?

 Liam Michaels

Have you changed your name before?

Actually, yes, I was previously known as Cuddles but I changed it to Liam Michaels just in the last few months!

What genre of music do you consider your work to be?

As a Dj, I play all EDM (Glitch, Trap, House, Dubstep, DnB, Hardstyle, UK Hardcore, you name it!)!  Id say my work (production wise) is really my own thing. I can’t really label it.

 Who are your major influences?

My most major influence on my djing and mixing style would probably be Dj Ravine. I literally learned almost everything I know from watching him. Some other names I like are Kaskade, 3LAU, Zomboy, Showtek, and Crystal Castles.

When did you become a Dj?

At 11 years old, I started off with virtual dj! No gear, just a keyboard and mouse!

What inspired you to make music?

Everyone inspired me. I make music to make myself and others happy. It’s kind of been my secret escape for as long as I can remember. I want other people to have that too!

Do you have a record label?

 Not at the moment.

What can you tell me about your MIXING EQUIPMENT  (i.e., Are you subject to brand loyalty or will you play with whatever’s available & what made you choose the instruments you have now? Was it cost or was it a style/model/brand/color Liam Michaels DJpreference?

I perform with all Native Instruments equipment. I use a Traktor Kontrol S4 and a Maschine Mikro MK2. The S4 has pretty much everything I could ever need. I use it with Traktor Scratch with the default mapping. And then I just use my Maschine Mikro to control remix decks and hot cues! As for headphones, I use a pair of Pioneer HDJ-500’s. I love them because they are VERY loud, crisp sounding, and budget friendly. Over spending on headphones is never a good idea!

What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

I don’t really think I have a favorite venue. It’s more about the crowd to me. Id probably say my favorite venue though would be Music Farm because of the location. My least favorite… I don’t really want to name. Id hate to give any place a bad reputation.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

Yes! September 8th at The Oasis on James Island i’m rocking the house with other great local talent! As for other shows, information will soon be posted… probably in the next week or so!

Could you briefly describe the music-making process?

It is different for everyone id say. But for me I spend quite a few hours sitting at my desk rewriting stuff over and over again until I finally come to a conclusion.. but im never FULLY satisfied with my work. I always feel like I could improve.. Which is good I guess!

What has been your biggest challenge as a DJ?

My biggest challenge has probably been being confident with myself and my performance. I think everyone has that issue though.

Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

Yes! I try to be outgoing and nice to as many people as possible! After doing it for a while it gets to be automatic and I don’t even have to think about it anymore.

What’s your ultimate direction AS A DJ? Are you seeking fame and fortune?

My ultimate direction is to make a name for myself and to eventually make a living off of being a Dj. There is no better feeling than doing what I love and I am willing to take a shot at it and hopefully be successful.

What advice do you have for people who want to START MIXING?Liam Michaels DJ

Don’t get in the habit of using the sync button unless you know how to beatmatch. Otherwise you will have to work with a very bad habit!

How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

Just google search “Liam Michaels Soundcloud” and it should be the first result!

Any Last words?
